BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/ bcr-2013-009769 DESCRIPTION In lingual orthodontics, bending the distal end without lingual instruments is difficult. Lingual appliance is associated with causing discomfort to tongue at the distal end due to improper bend backs. In addition, bending becomes more difficult, in cases where, second molar are also bonded or banded due to inaccessible area distally. Bend backs for lingual appliances can be given easily by instruments specially made for lingual orthodontics (Kurz Second Order Bending Fork). We present a technique with which bend backs can be given with ease in a lingual appliance with use of light wire pliers. The technique is as follows:

The bi-helix opening spring for lingual orthodontics.

U nlike treatment with conventional labial brack ets, lingual orthodontics relies on constriction mechanics, since the brackets are placed behind the center of resistance of the teeth. This makes space opening for the alignment of blockedout anterior teeth one of the major challenges of lingual treatment. Insertion and compression of an open coil spring are difficult and techniquesensitive ...

Wire jigs for stabilizing lingual retainers.

T simple stabilizing jigs for bonded lingual retainer wires are easily fabricated from materials in the office, using the following procedure: 1. Bend a circular retentive tag into one end of an .031" stainless steel wire segment.* 2. Double-wind the wire 6-8mm from the tag to form a helix with an internal diameter of 3mm (A). 3. Bend the other end of the wire 90°, leaving a space of about 2mm ...

Determining shapes and dimensions of dental arches for the use of straight-wire arches in lingual technique

INTRODUCTION This study aims to determine the shape and dimension of dental arches from a lingual perspective, and determine shape and size of a straight archwire used for lingual Orthodontics. METHODS The study sample comprised 70 Caucasian Brazilian individuals with normal occlusion and at least four of Andrew's six keys. Maxillary and mandibular dental casts were digitized (3D) and the ima...

Digital technologies and CAD / CAM systems applied to lingual orthodontics : The future is already a reality

Lingual orthodontics has been gaining space around the world due to its particularity to offer a discreet treatment option, “invisible”, in “secret” for the correction of malocclusion, combining biomechanical efficiency and enhancement of the smile during treatment. As the brackets are on the lingual surface, the point of force application is closer to the center of resistance, maximizing the p...

A sliding jig could not be used, and it was difficult to adjust angulations for the correction of root positions. ...
